A Different Kind of NETworking – Startup Cup Football is Back

By Simone ODonovan |

The Startup Cup football tournament is back – and there’s some added niggle on the pitch this time around with bitter ‘pizza war’ rivals Lieferheld and Lieferando, as well as FoodPanda, set to go head to head. Saturday’s tournament is being organised by Lieferheld and Urban Sports and will also feature teams representing startups such as EyeEm and GetYourGuide, with the myTaxi squad coming down from Hamburg especially.

In total, 128 players in 16 teams will  be doing their best to take the title from the reigning champions (and, coincidentally or not, startup behemoth) Zalando. The second running of the tournament will take place at Bobo Fuego Indoor Football Hall in Weissensee from 9.30am on April 20.

Prizes include a foosball table and a massive trophy for first place, a karaoke machine for second place and a fully stocked fridge of Relentless energy drink with glasses for third. All three placed teams also receive an Urban Bootcamp Session at the Urban Sports Club.

Last year’s tournament saw a close final between Zalando and Lieferheld with Home24 in third place. SoundCloud, Groupon and Sponsorpay were also in with the chance to win.

The event is being sponsored by lindenpartners and if you’re in need of a slice of the action – and want to do some NETworking of a different kind – you’re more than welcome to go along and cheer on the teams. For more information see the Startup Cup website.
