Win a Trip to the Dublin with the Developer Garden/Box Hackathon

By David Knight |

There’s nothing Berlin’s army of developers, designers, concepters and app freaks love more than a good hackathon – and the latest such event is offering the winners a trip to the Dublin Web Summit. It’s being organised by Developer Garden, Deutsche Telekom’s dev network, and Silicon Valley-based cloud service startup Box as part of the Lange Nacht der Startups (LNdS).

And it represents a great opportunity to show the outside world just what a talented bunch of developers can come up with, both creatively and technically, in just 24 hours. The event is free to enter and takes place on September 6 and 7 in the Karlsson Penthouse on Markgrafenstrasse overlooking the grand Gendarmenmarkt.

Other prizes up for grabs include iPad Minis for each member of the teams finishing second and third, as well as €50 Amazon gift cards, Nexus 7 tablets and a package from accelerator and incubator hub:raum.

Participants will have the opportunity to work with both the Box and Developer Garden APIs – just turn up with a laptop and some big ideas and form teams when you arrive. Everything is taken care of for you, from food and drink to expert mentoring and the perfect music to hack to.

You can really let your imagination run wild when it comes to potential projects, maybe putting together new concepts for how telecommunication services can improve areas like online storage and file sharing as well as peer-to-peer collaboration.

The previous Berlin hackathon which Developer Garden was a part of was a big hit, and just as with that event back in April, Silicon Allee is involved this time round as well.

I’ll be on the judging panel alongside Olga Steidl of dots’n’spaces and Berlin Geekettes founder Jess Erickson, alongside others to be named soon. We’ll be rating your projects on criteria including design, effective use of the APIs, (including how well you have used more than one API), how useful it is and its originality.

You can book your place for free here, then join the event’s hackerleague page – it’s where you will eventually submit your project. The event starts at 6pm on Friday, September 6 at Markgrafenstrasse 37 with pitching taking place at 7pm on Saturday, September 7. One team will also be chosen to present their idea at the LNdS conference at 10am, while the winners will be announced at 10pm at the main LNdS award ceremony.

They will win the trip to Dublin, which includes airfare, accommodation and conference passes, while there will also be a hub:raum prize which offers access to the hub:raum investment team.
