And following a quiet week last time around, there is a multitude of events to choose from this week.
Wednesday to Friday
A select crowd of European and Israeli founders are in town to hear from some thought leaders from the worlds of business and startups as part of Fly Berlin. Speakers include Jeff Pulver, Yanki Margalit of Spacell and Tzameret Fuerst of PrePex. The conference, organised by the Leadel Organization and the European Jewish Fund/Congress, is a celebration of the startup culture which has become a global phenomenon in recent years, with a focus on German and Israeli companies. There will also be special performances by Israeli popstar Ivri Lider and the Young Professionals. More info here.
Thursday
Co-Found Berlin, a meet up to help potential co-founders find each other, is back. It aims to create an environment where you can make the right connections and form a great startup team. It’s open to everyone – aspiring entrepreneurs, business people, freelancers, hackers and others. Buy tickets here, first drink included. From 7-10pm, at the Hotel Amano Rooftop Terrace.
The Berlin Tech Meetup returns to showcase some of the city’s finest companies, with participating startups each giving a demo of around five minutes. The startups will be showing off their technology and demo-ing exciting products. Each demo will be followed by Q&A, and there will be drinks during and afterwards (free while they last). October is the best time of year to open a beach bar, according to the folks at the Ahoy! co-working space. Hmm. In any case, it provides the excuse for a good old knees-up, with “proper” drinks as well as poker, billiards and table tennis. There will also be a chance to learn how to mix a cocktail – and don’t forget to bring along a smudge of nautical style. Data Science Day, which is billed as one of the most important community events of the German big data industry, takes place for the fifth time. It aims to provide a wider perspective on the subject of big data, bringing together data scientists, programmers and business leaders to explore the topic. There will be presentations and workshops based around the motto of ‘mobile and big data.’ Everything will be held in English; speakers include Florian Schuhmacher of Quantified Self Germany and Alexander Kagoshima of Pivotal. A slightly different one, now: Rethink Music will be hosting its first Venture Day, together with the IE Business School, at the Nhow music hotel. The day will consist of workshops and startup presentations as well as special networking opportunities, with lunch thrown in. Speakers will include Napster’s Thorsten Schliesche, Duane Morris partner Mark Fischer and Alex Losocs, CEO of BMAT in Spain. Register for free here. At Stralauer Allee 3, from 9am.
Friday
Wooga CEO and co-founder Jens Begemann will share some of his insights into the worlds of mobile, gaming and being an entrepreneur in Berlin. The fireside chat will take place at the Apple Store on the city’s famous Ku’damm. Jens will outline his vision for Wooga, how it has achieved success so far and what happens when the Chancellor decides to pop by your office for a visit. There will be a chance to answer questions afterwards. Please note the event will be in German. You can register for free at the Apple Store website. At Kurfürstendamm 26, from 7pm.
The October edition of FridayatSix takes place at the SAP ofiice in Mitte, with speakers including GetYourGuide co-founder Tao Tao, Richard Osinga, co-founder of Triposo, ResearchGate’s Ijad Madisch and Juergen Mueller, head of SAP Innovation Center. Saturday and Sunday
TechCrunch Disrupt, one of the world’s largest startup events, has arrived in Europe for the first time. The event kicks off at the weekend with the traditional curtain-raising hackathon, where hundreds of coders and developers will gather to form impromptu teams and spend nearly 24 hours building something from scratch.
