Following the overwhelming success of its first foray into mobile, Wooga has revealed plans for another of its games to make the jump from Facebook. Monster World will be available on iOS by the autumn – while Diamond Dash, the first mobile title from the Berlin-based mega startup, will be expanded onto the Android platform.
The announcement is part of the company’s plans to double its portfolio of games by early 2013 and is further proof of its continuing emphasis on mobile.
In the 12 months since Diamond Dash was first announced, half of the more than 200 employees at Wooga have been working on mobile, with the other half dedicated to native flash title for Facebook. The mobile strategy is concentrated on connected gaming, the company says, giving players the ability to connect with friends across multiple platforms and play together socially.
More than 70 million people have played Diamond Dash since it was first released on Facebook in March 2011, with 20 million of those downloading the game on the iPhone and iPad. Monster World, meanwhile, garnered more than 45 million players in two years. Wooga will now look to continue its success in what is a crowded market (and one that is getting more competitive all the time).
Wooga founder and CEO Jens Begemann said: “Our vision at Wooga is to makes games for everyone and with the growing popularity of mobile platforms we have an opportunity to bring our games to a bigger audience than ever before.”
