Berlin-based tape.tv saw off some strong competition to win the prize for best digital business idea at the 2012 kress Awards in Hamburg on Thursday. Dubbed by the jury as being “like MTV for digital natives,” the music video streaming platform won plaudits for its mixture of curated content and self-produced material such as On Tape and Auf den Dächern (On the Rooftops).
The company emerged triumphant ahead of Payback, Videovalis and the BILD-backed Stylebook.de at the ceremony, which is organised by media service kress.
Consisting of 23 leading figures from the German media and communications industry, including representatives from ZDF, the FAZ and G+J, the jury said: “tape.tv is not unique, but its style is outstanding. The development of the brand since its founding in 2008 has been remarkable – as it has been in the field of advertising. Those who grew up with cassettes will love what’s on offer.”
Conrad Fritzsch, the CEO of tape.tv, said the company was carrying forward the changing behaviour of media and viewers into the digital future: “The awards shows us that our approach and the style of implementation of combining the best of TV and the Internet is working.”
