Free TV App dailyme Adds More BBC Shows – and in English

The BBC, the UK’s well-known state broadcaster, has long been successful at exporting its original content abroad, with programs such as motoring show Top Gear and sketch show Little Britain proving popular around the world.

Its online iPlayer service, meanwhile, has also been a big hit – although it’s only available if you are in the UK itself. But telly lovers in Germany can get the best of both worlds now that the dailyme TV app has extended its worldwide co-operation with the BBC to include more than 50 programs, the above-mentioned pair among them.

Based in Berlin, dailyme TV is a free app that enables users to watch highlights as well as online videos without having to pay, and regardless of their location. You can choose which programs you like, and then as soon as your smartphone or tablet has a wifi connection, the latest episodes are updated automatically, a feature which saves on data and allows for a better user experience.

With the new partnership, the app will now sport programs featuring celebrity chef Jamie Oliver as well as the documentaries for which the BBC has a high reputation, and dramas such as Torchwood, Being Erica and Hustle. What’s more, the programs will be available in both German and their original English.

“When we decided to expand this co-operation, the objective was to reflect the variety of BBC formats within our app as well,” said Jonathan Dähne, managing director of dailyme TV. “Due to our users’ explicit request we now provide the English-language versions of each series in our app as well. This enables us also to reach target groups we haven’t been able to reach before.”

Alongside the BBC, dailyme TV’s portfolio also includes shows from German channels including ARD, ZDF, ARTE, ProSieben ans SAT.1. The company boasts more than 500,000 unique mobile users per month, with its audience largely based in the German-speaking DACH region up to now.
