Strong Showing for Berlin at Europas Awards

By David Knight |

Berlin put on a strong showing at the annual Europas awards, with startup staples EyeEm, Amen and 6Wunderkinder among the winners. The social ranking service Peer Index walked off with the evening’s top award, the Grand Prix, but the German capital reaffirmed its place as the new heart of Europe’s burgeoning tech scene with plenty of success.

The awards were presented in front of 500 people at the event in London. Amen picked up the Best Mobile or Apps Startup Award, with EyeEm and Wunderlist from 6Wunderkinder among the runners up. SoundCloud received a couple of nods, with Alexander Ljung and Eric Wahlforss recognised as the best co-founders and the startup itself earning a Highly Commended tag in the Europas Hero Award.

With both DailyDeal’s $114 million sale to Google and myTaxi also winning Highly Commended plaudits, in the Best Exit and Best Transport, Travel or Environmental categories respectively, it was a good night all round for Berlin.

The gongs were decided by a panel of 22 judges combined with 40,000 public votes, with the winners coming from all across Europe.
