A new meet up aimed at promoting ‘technology as a core’ startups will take place in Berlin next week for the first time. Simply called Berlin Tech Meetup, the evening of live demos from people and companies developing great technology will be held at Mobilesuite in Prenzlauer Berg.
Entrepreneur Gabriel Matuschka, a founder of OliveTree and one of the event’s organisers, told Silicon Allee that he wanted to see a a regular, high-quality event focusing solely on more technical products in Berlin.
He said: “I believe we can have a next wave of ‘technology as a core’ startups in Berlin – and we should all support this development. If anybody is serious about Berlin as Europe’s Silicon Valley, it will take such companies to go from vision to reality. To convince non-tech people of all of this, showing the beauty of technology is a good start.”
Investors, entrepreneurs and hackers will all be on hand at the meetup on Wednesday, March 21 from 7.30 pm, with demos lasting 3-5 minutes and each one followed by a Q&A. The current product demo line up includes cloudControl, EyeEm, Plista and Wooga.
Gabriel added: “While I think other meet ups like Hack and Tell are cool and very technical, they are too far away from your regular WHU business guy to get him involved or excited. They just won’t get it.
“If they go to events of this kind, it’s usually ‘to find a CTO for this e-commerce site I have in mind with my three co-founders. We are also willing to give him a 2 percent equity stake. You know, we had the idea and it’s all about execution…’”
