Messaging Platform Moped Launches Android App

Innovative messaging service Moped is riding high – just a few weeks after finally going public and revealing its $1million investment round, the Berlin-based startup has now launched an Android app. Today’s release follows its iOS cousin which has been updated alongside Moped’s Google Chrome extension.

The platform makes sending messages as convenient as instant messaging and as quick as texting. In addition, contacts and conversations are synced across Moped apps – so they will show up on both your iPhone and your Android device.

It provides a great way to communicate with friends and colleagues, from desktop and mobile, including sharing links online privately.

The funding round involved leading European and American investors including EarlybirdLerer VenturesSV Angel and Betaworks. After announcing it, founder Schuyler Deerman said: “Moped gives you universal access to your messages, like email, but it’s much lighter weight.”

The Chrome extension lets you easily share content on the Web with anyone in Moped – all your contacts are loaded into it, making sharing links much faster. In addition, Moped’s Dropbox integration allows you to share files within the service.

Currently, you need a Twitter account to sign up to Moped for authentication purposes. But that will change soon, and new users will be able to choose any username they want. So get a good one before they go!
