Vamos has had an amazing first few days in the App Store with the event finding tool reaching the top 10 downloaded apps in Finland, ranking at 18 in Germany and hitting the top 25 in Norway and Sweden.
It has been a promising start for one of the newest additions to Berlin’s startup scene, which has rapidly built up momentum in just a few months – and now it is eyeing the lucrative South American market.
The app, which launched to the public last Thursday, finds and shows you all of the events happening near you, pulling data initially from Facebook and now from Eventbrite as well. Vamos has also integrated with TOABerlin this week, allowing users to find the satellite events associated with the festival easily.
Co-founder Luis-Daniel Alegria was thrilled with the initial response of the public: “The weekend was like a dream. I’ll always refer to it as a dream because it’s unreal still.” As well as the success in Northern Europe, there has also been lots of interest from South America, and in particular Brazil and Argentina – markets that Luis is keen to tap into.
He added: “Based on some basic data, the average Brazilian user has 430 friends in their Facebook network. In Europe we have 120. This means that for a platform like Vamos, which has a very deep social integration, it would be an awesome experience even if it’s Monday lunchtime.”
Despite being named as one of Berliner Morgenpost’s top 15 startups in Berlin just a few days after launch, Luis sees the importance of keeping focused and not taking anything for granted: “I see everyday we have a couple of hundred new reviews and that will make my day. And I will be as happy today as I will be in two or three months.”
Right now, the product is the number one priority for Vamos, and the team has forgone the usual launch celebrations preferring to spend last weekend in the office instead working on the next version of the app.
