Tweek Updates its iOS Tablet Platform in Time for Festive TV

TV discovery startup Tweek has upgraded its iOS tablet platform, enabling a personalised TV guide on the iPad and introducing an app for the iPad Mini. The features found in Tweek 2.2, launched in the App Store on Monday, had already been incorporated into its first iPhone release in October.

And with Christmas one of the busiest TV-watching periods of the year – especially for those who usually don’t have much time for screen-gazing – it’s perfect for the upgraded platform which is aimed at recommending users with the right choices for them, and enabling them to watch through live TV or on demand.

The new version introduces an updated design which includes a landscape mode, and you can create your own watchlist for films or shows that you want to watch later. The recommendations come from personalised preferences that are learned by the app, what your friends like as well as an editorial selection.

Tweek co-founder Marcel Düe said: “The best TV and movie content finds you and not vice versa. Our data machine works with over 20 million recommendation data points, growing rapidly. Big data is becoming the key for your personal program.”

Content providers accessible on Tweek include NetFlix and iTunes in the UK and Das Erste Mediathek, ZDF Mediathek, Zattoo, iTunes, Lovefilm, BBC iPlayer and Dailyme.

This summer, the collaboration between Tweek and Zattoo meant that users could tune into Euro 2012 on their mobiles, while in August this year the app launched full integration with iTunes.
