What a crazy year! These are just some of the dozens of ID cards/name badges I’ve collected along the way at tech events in 2012. Most were held in Berlin itself – proof that the German capital is really coming into its own as an international startup hub.
And there is plenty to look forward to net year. Expect increasing amounts of attention to be coming this way as well as some awesome new trends starting to emerge. But 2013 certainly has a lot to live up to…
Looking back on the previous 12 months, there have been plenty of highlights. There was Berlin Web Week which included the excellent re:publica as well as NEXT and a host of other events. The CAMPKBX hackathon was good fun, as was Social Media Week.
Regular events like the Berlin Tech Meetup (and of course, our very own Silicon Allee breakfast meet up – next edition on January 8) have helped bring a wide variety of people in the startup sphere together. And it was also great to see the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Google make their presence known in Berlin.
The summer saw two unique and rather different conferences – the gigantic Campus Party at the former Tempelhof Airport and Tech Open Air, which was about the most Berlin-y event you could wish to see.
And with the seemingly endless round of Christmas parties now out of the way, it’s time to look ahead once more. What will hit the headlines next year? Michael Jackson from Mangrove Capital believes big data will be, well, big. But maybe he’s just off the wall.
I can’t leave you on such a bad pun – have a great New Year and we’ll be back, bigger and better, in January. Einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr/Frohes neues Jahr!
