A leading German managed hosting company has set up shop in Berlin in order to better tap into the city’s startup scene. Host Europe Solutions (HES), which is based in Cologne, can already name later-stage startups such as Zalando, eDarling and Mister Spex amongst its clients, as well as Rocket Internet.
Managed hosting is where a company leases an entire server (as opposed to shared hosting) and HES says it specialises in the “complete design, implementation and maintenance of highly complex Web projects” that this approach requires.
The company believes that its Berlin office – which will be headed by Robert Zilliger – can fill a need of startups for data-intensive applications, either Web or mobile, especially in e-commerce and CMS and portal service spaces
HES’ solutions are largely cloud-based, which it says will allow for easy and cheap set up without compromising on scalability or security.
“The German entrepreneurial scene is currently flourishing in Berlin, and the largest online players which are developing have a need for highly complex and highly secure infrastructure,” said Zilliger “Since we offer customised solutions for high-performance portals for business customers, which are developed in close consultation with the customer, it is an important strategic step for us to establish a presence in Berlin.”
The initial HES team in Berlin will consist of eight employees including sales staff and experts in pre-sales engineering.
The move is the latest in a trend of tech-related companies of all ilks opening a presence in Berlin to take advantage of the German capital’s exploding digital economy.
