American payments platform Paymentwall has opened a European headquarters in Berlin – yet another example of the German capital’s growing importance in the tech scene.
The Silicon Valley-based company, which offers 75 payment options with a user interface in 18 languages, has taken up lodgings in a prominent location on the swanky Unter den Linden boulevard where it will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Google, Mercedes and O2.
Paymentwall’s German subsidiary Paymentwall GmbH will provide enhanced payment solutions in the European market as well as access for developers to other global markets when monetizing their digital goods, virtual currency and downloads.
“Berlin was chosen as our EU HQ after extensive market research by our team, and after looking at Barcelona, London and Hamburg as contenders, Berlin with its diversity, culture and burgeoning startup industry made it a perfect match for us,” said Paymentwall CEO Honor Gunday. “Berlin attracts the kind of people we want to associate with, and with the new airport, Berlin will certainly be a hub that will bridge our offices in San Francisco, Kiev and Istanbul.”
