The Tech Making Christmas Easier for Shoppers AND Retailers

The Tech Making Christmas Easier for Shoppers AND Retailers

The first Glühwein has been consumed (mit Schuss, naturally), Unter den Linden looks less ugly than usual and task number one of a morning is no longer checking the smartphone but rather, opening another tasty door in the advent calendar. Yup, Christmas is almost upon us. Another sign of impending festive cheer is the blank mind and subsequent panic that sets in when it comes to choosing the perfect gifts for family and friends. Yet the physical posters with 'tear-off' tabs are still a common sight in cities like Berlin or London. And so it's not a surprise that someone has taken the idea of these flyers and digitized it. Likemind, which is launching its iOS app on Monday, is also jumping aboard the discovery wagon. The platform allows you to make new friends by connecting you with people who have things in common. Users can create posters with six tear-off tabs outlining what they want to talk about – be it a specific thing, such as 'who wants to go see a band tonight?', or a more general topic. Read More »

It's been a busy week for Deutsche Post. Up till now, the German postal giant hadn't been making too many waves in the world of startups, but it has now announced the acquisition of email marketing firm optivo for an undisclosed sum. Friday's news follows on from its partnership with Gini, announced earlier this week, as part of its efforts to digitize mail. Expect that process to extend not only to bank statements and insurance documents, but to all that promotional material that ends up in your letterbox as well. Read More »
